Part 4: Who’s Running? – Demcrat-held House Seats

Here are the next five races, which is a continuation of this post.
House District 22 (Franklin County – Columbus)
David Leland (D) – The former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman is looking to return to his old House seat. Leland was elected to one term in the Ohio House in 1982, then eventually went on to chair the Ohio Democratic Party from 1995 to 2002. The seat became open when Rep. John Carney declared his candidacy for state auditor.
House District 26 (Franklin County – Columbus)
House Minority Leader Tracy Heard is term-limited in 2014. While there have been several candidates rumored to be interested in the seat, no one has formally announced.
House District 28 (Northern Hamilton County – Cincinnati)
Micah Kamrass (D) – Rep. Connie Pillich is running for state treasurer, and as a result House District 28 will be at the top of the list of competitive districts in 2014. Micah Kamrass is hoping to hold the seat for Democrats. The former student body president at Ohio State is seeking his first office, and should inject some energy into the race.
Rick Bryan (R) – Bryan is a city councilman in Blue Ash, having formerly served as Mayor. He brings a lot of experience to the table, including 25 years in the private sector and 21 years in active and reserve duty in the Army.
Jonathan Dever (R) – Dever is an attorney from Kenwood Hills. Like Kamrass, he is making his first run for office. He has been involved in Cincinnati GOP politics for several years, which may help him maneuver through this crowded Republican primary.
Angel Clark (R) – Clark is a CPA from Forest Park. She is a political newcomer who launched her campaign at the end of July.
House District 32 (Hamilton County – Cincinnati)
Sean Patrick Feeney (D) – As Rep. Dale Mallory focuses on a run for the Senate, expect the race to replace him in the House to heat up. But at this point, only one candidate has stepped forward and that is Sean Patrick Feeney. Feeney is a technology consultant who has been politically involved for nearly 10 years, although he has yet to hold public office.
House District 34 (Central Summit County – Akron)
Emilia Sykes (D) – Name identification will not be a problem for Emilia Sykes as she runs for House District 34. The seat is currently held by her father, Rep. Vernon Sykes, who is term-limited in 2014. But it goes further than that. Her mother, Barbara Sykes, has also held the seat. As a matter of fact, this district has had a Sykes representing it for the past 30 years. If Emilia is successful, it will be longer.
