Candidates With General Assembly Ties On The Ballot

Last night, there were several candidates for local races that have current or former ties with the Ohio General Assembly. Here is a quick rundown of the results:

Former State Rep. Joe Koziura served two stints in the House of Representatives as well as former Mayor of Lorain. Mr. Koziura was elected to an at-large seat on Lorain City Council which he has held since 2012.

Current State Rep. Mike Stinziano was elected to Columbus City council along with Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Senator Sherrod Brown.

Current State Sen. Mike Skindell lost his bid for Lakewood mayor to incumbent Mayor Michael Summers by 13 points.

Former State Rep. Jim Trakas was successful in his bid for an at-large seat on Independence City Council.

Former State Sen. Kevin Coughlin lost his re-election to Clerk of the Stow Municipal Court in a three-way race

Former Senate President Dick Finan was elected Mayor of Evandale in Hamilton County. He currently sits on Evandale City Council and previously served as the mayor from 1969-1973.

Former State Rep. Peter Ujvagi won election to Toledo City Council. He will represent the third ward and won his race 53.27-46.23%.

Former State Rep. Dan Sferra , who previously served in the Ohio House from 2001-2004, won re-election to an at-large seat on Warren City Council.

Greg DiDonato, a former State Rep. from Dennison, OH retained his seat as a member of Dennison Village Council (Tuscarawas County)by eight points (53.99-46.01%)

Stephen Dyer, a former Democrat State Rep. from Green, OH was elected to the City of Green Council at-large, taking over 20% of the vote in a six-way race.

Arlene Setzer a former state Rep. in Montgomery candidate was unopposed in her bid for re-election to Mayor of Vandalia.

Tim DeGeeter was re-elected mayor of Parma. He ran unopposed. DeGeeter served as a state representative until 2011. He survived a write-in campaign from former Parma Councilwoman Mary Galinas

Mayor William J. Healy of Canton, a former State Rep. representing Stark County has been upset by Independent County Commissioner Thomas Bernabei by a total of 323 total votes with all precincts reporting

Frank Mahnic, Jr. , a former member of the Ohio House was re-elected to his position on the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center School Board.

Former State Rep. Zack Milkovich won election to City Council for the 10th ward in Akron.

Richard Hollington a former State Rep. from Northeast Ohio and current mayor of Hunting Valley in Geauga County ran unopposed in his re-elect.
