Member Spotlight: Abbott

Abbott is a global leader in worldwide adult nutrition and a leader of pediatric nutrition in the U.S. and many international markets. Abbott’s nutrition business has a major presence in Ohio, with U.S. commercial operations and global R&D center in Columbus and two manufacturing facilities in Columbus and Tipp City. You have undoubtedly heard of some of their major products such as Ensure, Similac and Pedialyte.

Abbott is committed to helping people live their best possible life through the power of health. For more than 125 years, they’ve brought new products and technologies to the world – in nutrition, diagnostics, medical devices and branded generic pharmaceuticals – that create more possibilities for more people at all stages of life. Today, Abbott has 74,000 employees working to help people live not just longer, but better, in the more than 150 countries that the company serves.

Even though Abbott is a global company, they joined the Ohio Chamber of Commerce in 1989 knowing the importance of being a strong business partner in the communities where their associates work and live. Abbott engages with the Ohio Chamber not only for our work at the Statehouse, but to build connections with other companies and their leaders to promote Abbott’s mission.

One particular area of public policy that is of concern to Abbott is the growing epidemic of older adults impacted by malnutrition.  Malnutrition is not systematically identified and treated, which leads to decreased independence and increased medical costs for Ohio seniors.  Morbidity, mortality, and direct medical costs associated with disease-related malnutrition for adults aged 65 years and older have an estimated $51.3 billion annual cost burden nationally and an estimated $372 million annual cost burden in the state of Ohio.

As an active member of the Ohio Chamber, Abbott is able to have a platform to carry out their mission. Together we work to carry out the mission of the Ohio Chamber to champion free enterprise and economic competitiveness for the benefit of all Ohioans.

We’re all for Ohio.
