Campaigns Already Gearing Up for 2018 Election Cycle

Don’t shoot the messenger; campaigns are starting to gear up for the 2018 election cycle. If you look at historical election numbers, the political party of the incumbent President of the United States doesn’t usually fare well in midterm elections. This could spell trouble for Ohio Republicans as they head into 2018. Looking back at recent history, 2006 was a mid-term election that the GOP would just as soon forget, having lost the governor’s mansion and all but one statewide office. Granted the circumstances were different, given Gov. Taft’s low approval rating compared to current Gov. Kasich. Time will tell if history repeats itself.

The General Assembly will see some turnover due to term-limits. Fourteen Ohio House members are not eligible to run for another term along with 10 members of the Ohio Senate. Here is the list of lame duck members:
