ONLINE CENTRALIZED FILING SYSTEM FOR NET PROFIT MUNICIPAL TAXES DEADLINE APPROACHES

Another year of tax filing is upon us. As we mentioned in a blog post last year, businesses can now use a centralized filing system to file and pay its net profit municipal taxes.  This legislative change was recently upheld in a decision by the Tenth Appellate District in the case City of Athens v. State of Ohio. A summary of that court decision can be found here.

In order to take advantage of this new online system for 2019 payments, businesses need to register by March 1, 2019, at www.tax.ohio.gov, then click on the link in the center of the page that says Municipal Net Profit Tax.

This central filing system for municipal net profit taxes was one of the major policy improvements the Ohio Chamber helped deliver to Ohio businesses during the previous two years. By opting in to this system, businesses will no longer have to file individual forms for each municipality in which they do business. This will save businesses not only the time it took to file each form separately, but also the expense of having to do so.
