Ohio Chamber Announces Joint Regional Effort in Support of Line 5

Today, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce participated in a press conference to announce the filing of a joint legal brief in U.S. federal court in the Line 5 proceeding. This filing highlights the importance for continued operations of Enbridge’s Line 5 to avoid a regional energy and economic crisis. We urge the Whitmer Administration and Enbridge to resolve dispute through mediation process, ensure competitiveness of region’s inextricably linked economy and safety of millions of people who call the region home.

Please see the Ohio Chamber’s statement on the importance of Line 5 below:

“The Ohio Chamber of Commerce urges Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, to keep Enbridge Line 5 operational. Ohio businesses, employees and families depend on Line 5, and are counting on the operation of Line 5 and the construction of the Great Lakes Tunnel to protect local economies of the Great Lakes, all while keeping energy prices affordable for consumers. According to a recent Consumer Energy Alliance analysis, if Line 5 were shut down, two-thirds of the losses, or $13.7 billion, would come from Ohio, which is more than four times the impact to Michigan. The Ohio Chamber of Commerce and its members are committed to ensuring a clean and safe environment now and into the future. By encasing and keeping Line 5 operational, Ohio and other regional jobs will be preserved, and the energy we all rely on can be transported in a safe, affordable, and efficient manner.”
