The Ohio Chamber has been sponsoring a conference focusing on state and local tax issues since 1992. This conference has become the nation’s largest state and local business tax conference; in 23 years the conference has grown from 115 attendees to more than 640. At the Ohio Chamber, we are very proud of its longevity and success, and are looking forward to this year’s conference, particularly our featured speakers and Ohio Tax Hall of Fame induction.
This year the conference will be at the Hyatt Regency Columbus on Tuesday, January 28th and Wednesday, January 29th. Governor John Kasich will speak at lunch on January 28th along with Tax Commissioner Joe Testa. Both the governor and the tax commissioner are likely to focus on the tax-related achievements of the Kasich administration during the past three years, particularly a 25% cut in personal income taxes and a personal income tax exclusion targeted at small businesses. They could also give hints to additional tax reforms that may be included in the mid-biennium review legislation which could be introduced in the General Assembly by mid-February.
Since 2000, the conference honors one individual who has made a special contribution to the field of state and local taxation by induction into the Ohio Tax Hall of Fame. This year’s honoree is Ray Anderson. Anderson has served Ohio’s business community for 33 years as the founder and chair of the state and local tax practice group at the Columbus law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, LLC. His indisputable tax expertise, combined with his professionalism, has garnered him the appreciation and thanks of many clients, associates, and fellow practitioners across the state. We look forward to honoring Ray Anderson as the newest inductee into the Ohio Tax Hall of Fame on Wednesday, January 29. We hope to see you there!
