State Issue 1: Statewide Importance of the State Capital Improvements Program

For the last 27 years, the State Capital Improvements Program has helped local Ohio communities build better infrastructure across the state. Since 1987, 11,500 road, bridges, sewer, and other infrastructure projects have been completed. This critical program is up for renewal during the May 6th primary election and voters need to vote “yes” on State Issue 1 so the program can continue another 10 years.

So, what are the key things you need to know about State Issue 1?

  • State Issue 1 boosts Ohio’s economic competitiveness. Good infrastructure is critical to a strong economy and long-term prosperity. Ohio’s transportation, energy, and water networks are critical state assets that drive growth, jobs, safety, mobility and trade – all of which directly impact our ability to compete. These networks connect Ohio businesses to customers and markets across the country and worldwide. Employment and production depend on them.
  • State Issue 1 does NOT increase taxes. The funds to repay Issue 1 are already built into planning for future state budgets. The local success and fiscally responsible nature of the State Capital Improvements Program has led to a strong history of bipartisan support from Democrat and Republican mayors, county engineers, and township trustees, and leaders of business and labor.
  • State Issue 1 creates jobs. It’s estimated that this program has created tens of thousands of jobs and this current renewal will result in 3,500 additional construction and allied jobs over the next decade.

State Issue 1 represents sound efforts to improve infrastructural support and services across all 88 counties in Ohio and by doing so, it increases the value and return on investment for businesses that operate here and improves the quality of life for Ohio’s citizens. With a network of strongly supported communities, the state of Ohio will continue to be well-positioned to attract businesses, skilled workers, and working families. Join us on May 6th and vote YES on State Issue 1.
