As 2016 begins, we all have a renewed opportunity to focus on the things that matter most. For many of you, the business that you own or operate is at the top of that list. Small business owners are constantly looking for new ways to become more efficient and operate at a higher level. And although we may not always believe in setting New Year’s resolutions, here are five you may wish to consider this year.
I feel fortunate to begin the new year at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as the new director of the Ohio Small Business Council (OSBC). To give you a brief background, I recently came from the state legislature, as the legislative aide to state Rep. Brian Hill. Prior to working in the Ohio House, I worked as a congressional aide to U.S. Rep. Steve Austria. I hope that my years of legislative experience at multiple levels of government will add value to the OSBC. I look forward to advocating on behalf of small businesses across Ohio and in the process, meeting the small business leaders who work hard each and every day.
At the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, “We’re All for Ohio.” I like to add that at the Ohio Chamber we’re all for Ohio small businesses as well. The OSBC is open to any chamber member business with fewer than 400 employees. We are looking for small business owners, managers and decision makers who have a passion for advocating for their business as well as others. It is important that legislators remain mindful that small business is the lifeblood of the state and national economy. Thus, one of the most effective methods to get your voice heard at the Statehouse is to participate directly in the lawmaking process.
The OSBC meets quarterly to discuss legislative matters that have an impact on small business. The next meeting is coming up this Wednesday, January 20th at 9:30 AM. I understand that you all have busy schedules but I hope that you can find time to attend the meeting. If you are unable to attend the January meeting, I would like to personally invite you to the following meeting which will take place in April. Please keep an eye out for additional information regarding future meetings.
Here is the agenda for the meeting.
