It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the US House of Representatives come together in a bipartisan fashion to pass a piece of legislation but that’s just what happened this week. The House passed the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) by an impressive bipartisan vote of 417-3.
You’ll remember this blog post outlining the bill introduced by Ohio’s own, Congressman Bob Gibbs, in an effort to reform the way in which water projects are funded. Historically, legislation was passed every two years to fund water projects, but no such legislation has been passed since 2007. WRRDA reforms the way in which these projects are funded by cutting federal red tape and bureaucracy, streamlining the infrastructure project delivery process, fostering fiscal responsibility, and strengthens water transportation networks to promote America’s competitiveness and economic growth. The legislation does not contain any earmarks but does reform the way in which projects are funded.
The bill now moves on to the US Senate. Visit Congressman Gibb’s congressional website to learn more about WWRDA.
