Member Spotlight: Women for Economic & Leadership Development (WELD)

Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD) is a non-profit organization that was established in 2003. They are new members with the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The National headquarters in central Ohio is run by a team of three. They have three chapters in Ohio and two outside of Ohio.

WELD’s mission is to develop and advance women’s leadership to strengthen the economic prosperity of the communities they serve. WELD provides women with specific tools to enhance their individual economic status. They also build programs, events and a community to support female leadership development and business growth.

To increase the engagement of their organization in the business community and to impact the leadership landscape of the business community, WELD became members of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

Barbara J. Smoot has been with WELD for eight years and is the current President & CEO. She had this to say about membership with the Ohio Chamber:

“WELD believes membership in chambers provides excellent opportunities to get close to the pulse of the business community.  As a member of the chamber, WELD is involved in chamber committees.  This involvement is meaningful, and we encourage others to fully get engaged with the chamber.”
